Stone Magic ~ The Spirit Within

 Sapphire History & Lore
Sapphires have been prized as great gemstones
since 800BC.  Rulers of ancient Persia believed
the sky was painted blue by the reflection of sapphires.
Blue sapphires were a holy stone to the Catholic Church
and to Ancient Persians.  To some religions,
the blue color of the sapphire represents the heavens.
Translations in several languages reveal sapphires to be dear to Saturn.
Ancient lore held that the tablets upon which the Ten Commandments were written were actually sapphire.  Kings used to wear sapphires around their necks as a powerful defense from harm.  They were said to attract divine favor.  In the 12th Century, the sapphire was known as the most appropriate stone for ecclesiastical rings.  The Sinhalese believed that the star sapphire served as protection and a guard against witchcraft.

Native American Animal Symbol

Native American Animal Symbol
If you were born Sep 22 – Oct 22
You are a wonderful
RAVEN
Highly enthusiastic, and a natural entrepreneur, the Crow is quite a charmer. But he/she doesn't have to work at being charming – it comes easily. Everyone recognizes the Crow's easy energy, and everyone turns to the Crow for his/her ideas and opinions. This is because the Crow is both idealistic and diplomatic and is quite ingenious. In nurturing environments this Native American animal symbol is easy-going, can be romantic, and soft-spoken. Further, the crow can be quite patient, and intuitive in relationships. Left to his/her own devices, the Crow can be demanding, inconsistent, vindictive, and abrasive.

Dakota Jones and the Peridot Princess ~ Part 4

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

Dakota and Ruby tumbled down a small hill of sand before rolling to a stop. Ruby was the first to stand and brush herself off. Looking up she gasped.

Closing his eyes Dakota sighed. "It's spiders isn't it? It's always spiders."

Ruby remained silent so Dakota lifted his head. In front of him stood a paradise most men only dream about. A crystal blue stream ran through a lushious green meadow flanked by tall Cieba trees. In the middle of the meadow stood a tall Mayan pyramid under a cloudless azure sky.

"The pyramid, it looks brand new," whispered Ruby, snapping Dakota out of his trance.

"Come on," said Dakota, walking past Ruby toward the pyramid. "Let's find that necklace."

The two explorers hopped over the stream and crossed the meadow to stand in front of the stairs leading up to the top of the pyramid. Ruby studied the markings on the side of the stairs.

"What does it say?" asked Dakota.

"All those that walk will not stay in the light." Ruby raised an eyebrow. "Wonder what that means."

"It means that these stairs are booby trapped, sweetheart." Dakota looked at the stairs. "Does it say anything else?"

Ruby studied the rest of the pyramid. "I don't see anyth... wait on the stairs. The symbol on every third step."

"What does it mean?" asked Dakota.

"It's the K'IN, the symbol for sun."

"And the other two symbols?" Dakota squinted. "The ones on the first and second steps?"

"Well I believe the symbol on the first step is for mountain and on the second... I can't be for sure, but it looks like snake. But I can't be sure which steps to take... the sun is always in the light, but mountains can bring you closer to the light and a snake has to have heat in order to live."

"Well there's only one way to find out."

"No! Dakota wait!"

Stone Magie ~ The Spirit Within

 Sapphire History & Lore
Throughout history, sapphire has been a favorite of royalty.  In olden times, King Solomon wore a sapphire ring.  More recently, Prince Charles gave a sapphire engagement ring to Lady Diana Spencer (left).  Since then, more and more couples have decided to adopt this tradition instead of conventional diamonds.  Sapphire doesn’t stand for wild and fiery passion, rather for truth, compatibility, commitment, and mutual understanding.

"And just why would we do that?" asked Dakota.

Moses snapped his fingers signaling one of his thugs to grab Ruby, sliding his machete under her chin. "Because if you don't I'll kill her."

The thug lifted the knife causing a trickle of blood to drip down Ruby's chin. A small squeak escaped her lips before she could swallow it. "Don't tell him anything Dakota. I'd rather die than let him get the Peridot Princess. You know what will happen if he wears it."

Moses laughed. "Yes, nature will do my beck and call. All animals, rocks and trees will be under my command. I will control the weather as well as the seas. Governments will have no choice but to bow down to me if they want their ports to stay above water and their crops to thrive. But don't worry Dakota, I've always been a fair man. Soon I will control the fate of every man, woman and child, but right now I'll let you decide the fate of the fair Ruby. You help or she dies... your choice."

Dakota grunted. "Fine, let her go. I'll help you find the Peridot Princess."

"Dakota, no!" screamed Ruby. "I'd rather die!"

"All in good time," sang Moses, tweaking Ruby's chin and nodding to the thug to let her go.

"Don't worry, sweetheart," said Dakota, giving Ruby a wink. He looked at Moses. "It's this way."

Dakota started walking south and the group followed. Less than an hour later they came to a tall Ceiba Tree who's roots were the size of a large house. Dakota felt the trunk. "This is the sacred Ceiba tree of the Mayans. The Mayans believed the Ceiba tree connected the Earth world to the Spirit world."

"We don't have time for lesson in mythology, Dakota. Just lead us to the ruins," snapped Moses as he slapped a misquote off his neck.

Dakota continued to feel around on the old tree. A smirk tugged at his mouth as he pulled a key from around his neck and inserted it into the truck of the Ceiba tree.

The ground started to rumble, soon shaking violently. "Earthquake!" yelled Moses as he and his men tumbled to the ground.

Dakota stumbled back to Ruby. "Do you trust me?"

She quickly nodded. He grabbed her hand and running as fast as he could pulled her toward the tree trunk. Closing his eyes, he let out a warrior cry as he and Ruby were swallowed up by the tree, Ruby grabbing the key as they fell into darkness.
