Combined
By Cathy Collar

A grain of sand has not much might,
When it is all alone.
But when combined with other grains,
A mighty force is shown.

A drop of rain can’t do much good,
If it is all alone.
But when combined with other drops,
It’s goodness sure has grown.

A man is not very strong,
When working all alone.
But when combined with other men,
A better world is know.

Thoughts from Cathy December

A telling by Eldrbarry:
Many folk legends have grown around the Christmas tree. Christ's blessing and gift to mankind in the form of a decorated tree remains the central theme of most. Across Europe, people used tree-based folk tales to teach children about the celebration of Christ's birth.

Stories about first Christmas trees

Boniface and Thor's Oak

Legend has it that the missionary to the Germans, St.Boniface, in order to stop sacrifices at their sacred Donar Oak near Geismar, chopped the tree down in 725 A.D. Supposably with one mighty blow, Saint Boniface felled the massive oak and as the tree split, a beautiful young fir tree sprang from its center. Saint Boniface told the people that this lovely evergreen, with its branches pointing to heaven, was indeed a holy tree, the tree of the Christ Child, a symbol of His promise of eternal life. He instructed them henceforth to carry the evergreen from the wilderness into their homes and to surround it with gifts, symbols of love and kindness

The Upside Down Fir Tree

During the 7th century, a monk from Devonshire spent time there preaching the word of God. Like any good instructor, he used props. The story goes that he used the triangular shape of the Fir tree to describe the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that makes up the Holy Trinity. By the 12th century, the Fir tree was being hung upside down from ceilings in Central Europe as a symbol of christianity at Christmas time.

Stories about first Christmas trees

Another typical tale tells about a woodcutter who helps a small hungry child. The next morning, the child appears to the woodcutter and his wife, and is none other than the Christchild. The child breaks a branch from a fir tree and tells the couple that it will be a tree that, at Christmas time, will bear fruit. As foretold the tree is laden with apples of gold and nuts of silver.

Stories about first Christmas trees

One story tells that when Christianity first came to Northern Europe, three virtues: Faith, Hope and Charity were sent from Heaven to find a tree that was as high as hope; as great as love; as sweet as charity; and one that had the sign of the cross on every bough. Their search ended in the forests of the North where they found the Fir. Lighted from the radiance of the stars, it was the first Christmas tree.

A Special Gift
In Memory of My Special Angel
Anna

 By Cathy Collar

The softly glowing orb floated through the dark, silent night.  Her light rivaled that of the moon.  She was told she could not go.  Could not make this trip from heaven to Earth.  She was too young, too newly an angel, but in her heart she knew she had to come.  It would be her first Christmas away from her earthly family and she must be there.  They had to know that she was all right. That she was happy and a part of her would always be with them.  The new angel wasn’t sure how she was going to accomplish this, but she was determined and with the help of God, he would help her, he’d understand, she would find a way.
She floated looking for any sign that she was in the right place.  Her journey had disoriented her a bit and she really wasn’t accustomed to her new form.  The frozen ground reflected her glow, lighting her way through the brisk night. She did not feel the cold.  The glowing warmth that God had bestowed upon her filled her whole being.
There it was, her earthly home.  No Christmas lights outside this year.  The sight saddened her a little.  Her mother loved Christmas and always decorated the house and yard with thousands of brilliant lights. The Nativity Scene hadn’t even been set out.  But she understood why.  Her family really didn’t feel the Christmas joy this year because they were missing her.
Determined to let them know that she was gloriously happy, she slipped into the house.  A dream vision would be the easiest way to talk to them.  Her grandpa’s sister, Shellia had passed at the tender age of nine.  She had become the new angel’s very special friend and taught her a few simple angel tricks, how to pass through walls and not knock yourself out in the process, how to make things glow and how to enter a dream.  The new angel said a silent prayer.  Please God help me get this right.  Her inner glow grew a little warmer.  She smiled.  He was with her on her quest.
She floated to her parent’s bedroom.  The sadness and grief almost knocked her down.  She must fight her way past this.  She had been warned this would be her biggest enemy in getting through to them.
“It will be all right.  I am with you.  I will give you the strength you need.”
The voice softly blended with her whole being.  Fortified, she bolted forward, through the fog of despair that barred the entry into the room.
First, would be her mom.  She would be easier to reach.  Her mind was open to the thought that her daughter would contact her in some way.  Her mom had prayed for it.  The new angel pausing studied her mother’s face.  Dark circles appeared under her eyes, evidence of unending tears that had been shed.  Yes, this was the right thing to do.  She must vanish the doubt in her mother’s mind.  Softly she hovered over her mom’s heart.  She had already planned the dream that would be implanted there.  Her thought formed and pushed its way gently in, a glowing white angel with feathery wings, basking in a brilliant light and her smiling face looking into her mother’s eyes.  The young angel watched as her mother’s grief lifted a little and a smile spread on her lips.
She drifted to her dad.  She knew he would be more difficult.  He was trying so hard to be the strong one.  As always, he thought he had to be the rock for all to lean on.  She felt his enormous pain.  He held inside all of his suffering and grief.  It was so vast.  She knew she had to push her way past and find the soft spot underneath.  Try as she might, her thoughts would not break through.  What would she do now?  The soft, calm voice was back.
“You must enter his heart.  I will help you.”
With a surge of light, the new angel battled through the hard shield her father and built.  Thump, thump, she was in!  She had thought about his dream very carefully.  It had to be simple, yet strong enough for him to believe.  The thought formed.  A blue sky covered with dark clouds.  The clouds represented her fears and problems on earth.  Now the clouds would part to a blazing sun, her bright new world.  He was a being of nature and would understand this dreams’ meaning.  Struggling back through the shield, she forced her way out.   She watched as his face transformed from tension and strain into a state of satisfied calmness.
Hovering above her parents, she soaked in their love.  She hated to go, but her work here was done.  If she stayed any longer, it would be harder for them to move on.
“I will visit you often,” she whispered drifting out of the room.
She paused at the sight of the familiar Christmas tree standing in its usual spot in the living room.  She took in all of the homemade ornaments and twinkling lights.  Her eyes followed them to the top, where she knew the beautiful Christmas Angel would stand.  Oh no!  Something was wrong.  The Christmas Angel's candles, held in her hands were not lit!  This just wouldn’t do!
“Here is my Christmas present to all of you,” she said.  The candles began to glow then blossomed into a brilliant light. “Merry Christmas!  I love you all dearly!”
Floating back to heaven, the new angel felt a great worry lift from her soul.  She knew her message had gotten through.  Now she must move on to her new life.

Native American Animal Symbol

Owl Native American Animal Symbol Owl: Nov 23 – Dec 21
Changeable and mutable as the wind, the Owl is a tough one to pin down.
Warm, natural, with an easy-going nature, the Owl is friend to the world. The bearer of this Native American animal symbol is notorious for engaging in life at full speed, and whole-hearted loves adventure. This can be to his/her detriment as the Owl can be reckless, careless, and thoughtless. Owls make great artists, teachers, and conservationists. However, due to his/her adaptability and versatility – the Owl would likely excel in any occupation. In a supportive, nurturing environment the Owl is sensitive, enthusiastic, and an attentive listener. Left to his/her own devices, the Owl can be excessive, overindulgent, bitter, and belligerent.

A Beautiful Christmas Poem

The night before Christmas, He lived all alone, In a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone. I had come down the chimney with presents to give, And to see just who, in this home, did live. I looked all about a strange sight I did see, No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree. No stocking by mantle, just boots filled with sand, On the wall hung some pictures of far distant lands. With med.........als and badges, awards of all kinds,
A sober thought, came through my mind. For this house was different, it was dark and dreary, I found the home of a soldier, once I could see clearly. The soldier lay sleeping, silent, alone, Curled up on the floor, in this one bedroom home. The face was so gentle, the room in such disorder, Not how I had pictured an American soldier. Was this the hero, of whom I'd just read? Curled up on a poncho, the floor for a bed?
I realized the families, that I saw this night, Owed their lives to these soldiers, Who were willing to fight. Soon round the world, the children would play, And grownups would celebrate, a bright Christmas day. They all enjoyed freedom, each month of the year, Because of the soldiers, like the one lying here. I couldn't help wonder, how many lay alone, on a cold Christmas eve, in a land far from home. The very thought brought a tear to my eye, I dropped to my knees, and started to cry.
The soldier awakened, and i heard a rough voice, "Santa don't cry, this life is my choice; I fight for freedom, i don't ask for more, My life is my God, my Country, my Corps." The soldier rolled over, and drifted to sleep, I couldn't control it, i continued to weep. I kept watch for hours, so silent and still, And we both shivered, from the cold night's chill. I didn't want to leave, on that cold, dark, night, This guardian of honor, so willing to fight.
When the soldier rolled over, with a voice soft and pure, Whispered, "Carry on Santa, it's Christmas Day & all is secure." One look at my watch, and I knew he was right. Merry Christmas my friend, and to all a good night

This poem was written by a Marine stationed in Okinawa Japan. The
following is his request. I think it is reasonable.....

PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities.

Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed.

The Christmas Visitor

The Christmas Visitor
By Cathy Collar

It’s Christmas Eve,
the ground is white.
I find it hard to sleep tonight.
Impatiently, I wait to see,
What Santa Claus will bring to me.

So excited that I cannot sleep.
I Creep down the stairs to sneak a peek.
What‘s that standing by the tree?
It’s light’s so bright, I cannot see !

I am picked up in gentle arms,
Placed back in bed away from harm.
Now as I settle down to sleep,
And pray the lord my soul to keep.

While I am drifting into slumber,
I cannot help but to wonder,
Was Santa standing by the tree,
Or Jesus come to visit me?
