Amethyst: A Mini Novella ~ Conclusion

Part 1: http://annas-legacy.blogspot.com/2012/02/amethyst-mini-novella-part-1.html

Part 2: http://annas-legacy.blogspot.com/2012/02/amethyst-mini-novella-part-2.html

"You can't get them back," Amethyst rolled her eyes. "You're only saying that so I'll forgive you, but I won't. I can't."

"Seriously," said Jasper, "I can get every one of those dogs back and I've found a place for you to keep them. Legally."

"I don't believe you." Amethyst folded her arms.

"You don't have to, just come with me and I'll show you," pleaded Jasper.

Amethyst huffed and tapped her foot. "I really shouldn't give you the time of day."

"Come on, just give me an hour to see what I've done." His eyes fell. "I did it all for you."

Amethyst felt her heart melt. Why did he have to look at her like that? He knew she couldn't resist that look. "Fine," she said, dropping her arms like a five year old who's finally agreed to eat his broccoli.

Jasper hailed a cab and rattled off a quick address Amethyst wasn't familiar with. "Is that in the city?" she asked.

A devilish grin caressed his face. "You'll have to wait to find out."

Amethyst raised an eyebrow at him, before turning her focus to the window. Soon she was snoring softly. She awoke to the gently shaking of Jasper. "We're here."

Amethyst blinked the sleep out of her eyes and took in her surroundings. The cab was parked at an old farmhouse, complete with two finished barns and a storage shed. "Where are we?"

Jasper reached over her and opened the door. "Let's get out so you can look around."

She stepped out of the cab. Jasper followed behind her before letting out a loud whistle. Amethyst heard a bark, then another. Soon five fuzzy heads came barreling toward her. She recognized them instantly. They were her strays.

"The two little ones are in the house with Marg," said Jasper. "We're going to build a fence around the house so they can play outside, too. Since we won't let every dog you find run the acreage, there are state-of-art kennels in the barn. Plans are in the works to give each dog an outside run pen as well as their kennels inside."

Tears flooded Amethyst's eyes as she hugged her furry friends. "I don't understand. How did you do this all this?"

"I met Marg at the pound. She had been volunteering there while setting up her own kennel," explained Jasper. "She hated the city's euthanasia law, so she bought this farm with the dream of running a no kill shelter. She's already got a grant for the rest of the construction, donations are pouring in, and now all she needs is a manager. We're hoping you'll take that job."

"Where was all this passion when I started my kennel?" Amethyst sighed.

"You're what I'm passionate about." He said wrapping her up in his arms. "I want my wife back."

Amethyst looked around the farm before glancing at her husband. "You've got her."

Stone Magic!!!!!!! "The Spirit Within"

AMETHYST LORE & HISTORY
Historically, the stone was believed to assist prophecy and visions and to bring riches and powers to its owners. It has always been associated with the civil and religious classes that have ruled human cultures. In the Chinese philosophy of Feng Shui, the amethyst enhances the wealth corner focusing on the giving and receiving of material wealth. At the highest level, amethyst bestows the spiritual understanding required to reach the state of bliss. It is associated with the crown chakra at the top of the head where divine essence enters. It is a good stone to solve discord, suggested for children and warring relatives. In Renaissance magic, an amethyst engraved with the image of a bear was worn as a protective amulet. In Graeco-Roman times, rings of amethyst set in bronze were worn as charms against evil, and magical cups carved from amethyst banished sorrow and evil from all who drank.

Native American Animal Symbol

Native American Animal Symbol
Wolf: Feb 19 – Mar 20

Deeply emotional, and wholly passionate, the Wolf is the lover of the zodiac in both the physical and philosophical sense of the word. The Wolf understands that all we need is love, and is fully capable of providing it. Juxtaposed with his/her fierce independence – this Native American animal symbol is a bit of a contradiction in terms. Needing his/her freedom, yet still being quite gentle and compassionate – we get the picture of the "lone wolf" with this sign. In a nurturing environment the Wolf is intensely passionate, generous, deeply affectionate, and gentle. Left to his/her own devices the Wolf can become impractical, recalcitrant, obsessive, and vindictive.

Amethyst, A Mini Novella - Part 2

Miss part 1? Here it is ~ http://annas-legacy.blogspot.com/2012/02/amethyst-mini-novella-part-1.html

"You?" Amethyst's nose turned up in disgust as she stared at the man who single-handily ruined her life.

"You're welcome," said Jasper, putting Amethyst down. "It's always nice to feel appreciated. I can only imagine your response had I let your pretty tush hit the ground."

"Thanks," Amethyst said sarcastically as she smoothed out her skirt, "but I had it."

"Sure you did." Jasper winked.

"You know, that's just like you. You come in acting like you're a hero or something, when things were just fine."

Jasper sighed. "Things were not fine, not now, not there. You were being scammed."

"So what?" huffed Amethyst. "The dogs had a place to live until I found them permanent homes. So what if it was run by a slum lord? You called the law on him, and he called the law on me for not having a permit. Now I have no idea where those dogs are. Most of them are probably dead by now. You know the pounds in this city have no problem with euthanizing strays. They wouldn't let me adopt a single one." Amethyst broke down into tears. "All I was trying to do was help and you ruined everything."

"Not everything," said Jasper. "What if I told you I can get them all back?"

Stone Magic!!!!!!! "The Spirit Within"

AMETHYST LORE & FICTION
Amethyst has religious connotations, as well. It was one of the twelve stones that adorned the breastplate of the high priest Aaron (Exodus 39). Amethyst later has stood for the tribe of Dan, one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. The Apostle Matthias and the Guardian Angel Adnachiel spirit are associated with Amethyst, as well. During the Middle Ages, Amethyst stood for piety and celibacy and was therefore worn by members of the Catholic Church clergy and was used to adorn crosses.
During the Renaissance, Amethyst has stood for humility and modesty. Throughout the ages, powerful and rich monarchs have used Amethyst as a symbol of royalty, and some Amethysts even decorate the British Crown Jewels. Rumor has it that Amethyst was a personal favorite of Queen Catherine the Great of Russia.

Stone Magic!!!!!!! "The Spirit Within"

 AMETHYST LORE & HISTORY

The name amethyst derives from the ancient Greek word amethustos, meaning sober. It was said that an amethyst could prevent the bearer from becoming excessively drunk and also instills a sober and serious mind. It was believed that if a person drank from a cup or goblet made entirely of amethyst, he or she would not get drunk at all. In Greek mythology, amethyst was rock crystal dyed purple by the tears of Dionysus, the god of wine and revelry. Ancient Egyptians used the stone as the representative of the zodiac sign of the goat. The goat was considered the enemy of vines and vineyards, and therefore the antidote of wine.

Amethyst: A Mini Novella ~ Part 1

Amethyst looked down at her shoe. Sure enough a 4-square length of toilet paper was attached. How long had that been there? Her cheeks glowed as she thought of the stares she had taken as ego boosters. They were not staring because she was rocking the plum pashmina she had just bought, but because she was trailing potty paper.

Shaking her head, she debated the best way to rid herself of the embarrassing nuisance. If she stepped on it with the other foot, then it would just become attached to her other shoe. Not a remedy, just the same problem, different foot.

The thought of touching the paper caused her to gag. Even a gallon of hand sanitizer couldn’t wash those cooties away. She looked around the street for a stick, litter, even a rock, but found nothing that would rid her of the offensive trail.

She looked to the curb. If she could just scrap it off, then the appalling problem would just float down the street and be somebody else’s dilemma. Toilet paper was biodegradable right?

Amethyst hobbled to the curb and began wiping the bottom of her shoe along the edge. She heard the honk of a horn, right before a bus barreled by, throwing her off balance. She threw her arms out to steady herself, her elbow cracking into something, before she fell directly into the arms of Jasper Moonstone.

Stone Magic!!!!!!! "The Spirit Within"

 Amethyst Lore & History

According to Greek mythology, Amethyst was a young virgin who became the object of wrath of the Greek God Dionysus after he became intoxicated with red wine. When Amethyst cried out to Goddess Diana for help, she immediately turned the girl into a white, shimmering stone (quartz). When Dionysus realized what had happened and felt remorse for his actions, his tears dripped into his goblet of red wine. The goblet overturned, and the red wine spilled all over the white rock, saturating it until it became the purple quartz that is now known as Amethyst.

A Strange little Thing

By Cathy Collar

A strange little thing sweeps through the air.

It is cherished by people everywhere.

Even though it is known to cause suffering and pain.

It is everywhere searched for again and again.

It has made tears fall from many an eye,

But people without it would just as soon die.

Why is it sought after and cherished so much,

If it brings pain to the places it’s touched?

Because it has also made meek men brave.

And many a time a life it has saved.

It can bring pleasure to much of mankind,

When found in the right place, at the right time.

It’s power’s unlimited, yet it’s peaceful as a dove.

I hope you experience it,

This Strange Thing called LOVE !

Stone Magic!!!!!!! "The Spirit Within"

Amethyst Lore & History

Amethyst has been a prized gem for centuries. It is the birthstone for Pisces and the month of February, and the gemstone for the 6th anniversary of marriage. The stone is included in royal collections all over the world, from ancient Egypt to the British crown jewels. The Smithsonian has an amethyst that weighs 400 pounds! Ancient civilizations prized the stone more than many gems, which today, enjoy more recognition and value, including the Sapphire and the Ruby. In olden times, Amethyst saw its place in the Christian church, worn on Bishops’ rings. The royal purple color used to symbolize Christ. Saint Valentine was thought to wear a ring set with an antique Amethyst carved with an image of Cupid. The stone is also a symbol of Saint Matthias. There are a number of Biblical references to the amethyst. It was also one of the twelve precious stones in the high priest Aaron’s breastplate. The twelfth foundation of the Holy City was built of amethyst. For some time, true amethyst was valued equally with the diamond. Then great finds in South America and elsewhere made it more plentiful. As its rarity decreased, so did its price.

ANNA'S LEGACY

Native American Animal Symbol
Otter: Jan 20 - Feb 18
A little quirky, and unorthodox, the Otter is a hard one to figure sometimes. Perceived as unconventional, the Otter methods aren't the first ones chosen to get the job done. This is a big mistake on the part of others – because although unconventional, the Otter's methods are usually quite effective. Yes, the Otter has unusual way of looking at things, but he/she is equipped with a brilliant imagination and intelligence, allowing him/her an edge over every one else. Often very perceptive and intuitive, the Otter makes a very good friend, and can be very attentive. In a nurturing environment the Otter is sensitive, sympathetic, courageous, and honest. Left to his/her own devices, the Otter can be unscrupulous, lewd, rebellious, and isolated.

Inside A  Smile
By Cathy Collar
Have you ever looked inside a smile?
A grin that goes for miles and miles?
A laugh that bellows loud and clear?
A joyful sound for all to hear.

Let’s take a trip inside a smile.
And linger there for awhile.
First we see little giggles,
Crawling on the tongue with tickles.

They peek between the teeth and grin,
Then they bounce out on the chin.
There they spring into the eyes
And sparkle like a twilight sky.

And this is just where they start
Soon they travel to the heart.
There they gently touch the soul,
And make the whole body glow.

Now, back to the mouth they bounce,
And giving it their every ounce,
They spread a smile from ear to ear,
And form a laugh to spread their cheer !
