The Dark Heart ~ Part 11
“Does this surfer boy know how to dance?” asked Emberlyn.
Jackson gave her a wink. “He does."
Taking Emberlyn’s hand gently, Jackson led her to the dance floor. He gracefully twirled Emberlyn once before taking her in his arms. As he pulled her in close he took in her of scent of vanilla and cinnamon, sending his stomach into butterflies.
“Well, Mr. Hunt, you are a marvelous dancer,” said Emberlyn.
“Please, call me Jackson.” Jackson smiled. “You know I never did ask how you knew my name.”
“I’m a good host,” said Emberlyn. “It’s my job to know everyone.”
Jackson looked around the ballroom filled with people and his eyes fell on Tucker and Genna dancing together. Before he could stop himself, he let out a grunt of disgust. Emberlyn looked over her shoulder.
“Mr. Hearst and Miss Murphy?” Emberlyn said, while shaking her head in confusion.
Jackson sighed. “It’s a long story.”
Emberlyn gave him a knowing smile. “Her loss.”
Jackson shrugged and looked over at Genna again. To his surprise Emberlyn placed a hand on Jackson’s cheek, gaining is attention before kissing him.
As Jackson’s lips meet Emberlyn’s he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer. His mind began to spin as fireworks erupted in his stomach. The crowd seemed to disappear, Etta James’s sultry voice the only sound to be heard as she finished the song, “I found my love at last.”
The crowd started to clap as Emberlyn slipped away from their kiss and joined the others in the applause.
Jackson stood behind her, his heart racing, trying to wrap his brain around what had just happened and the fact he wanted it to happen again.
The orchestra started to play again and Emberlyn turned to Jackson and smiled.
“You look like the cat who ate the canary… .” She gave him a sly smile. “Or the cat who is about to eat the canary.”
He couldn’t help but laugh.
“Come,” she said taking his arm. “Let’s get a drink.”
