The Mermaid's Pearl ~ Part 3
The man laughed. "Well technically I'm a merman."
June blushed. "I'm so sorry. It's just that... well, I've never seen one of your kind before. Not even at the Meeting of the Minds."
The merman's smile faded. "I'm afraid we had a falling out with your people."
"But why?" asked June. "My father is a just and fair man."
The merman nodded. "Yes, he is. But he couldn't get his people to see the destruction they were doing to the water... to our home."
"What more can we do?" asked June.
"There are many things, but instead of telling you, why don't I show you?"
June looked to the surface. "You saved my life, I can never repay you for that. But I should really let my family know I'm okay."
"Do you not trust me?" asked the merman.
June blushed again. "I barely know you... I mean, I don't even know your name. You don't know me either. For all you know, I could be one of those very people destroying your world."
"Ahhh, June, we know you very well. We've seen you swim in our waters, the appreciation of our home is apparent in your aura. You would never do anything to hurt us, or us you. Which is why I feel you're precisely the person to help us."
"I don't even know your name," said June.
The merman bowed. "Forgive my rudeness, they call me Shimmer."
Shimmer grabbed June's hand. "Will you help us?"
"But what can I do? I am just one person."
Shimmer smiled. "It only takes one person to start a revolution."
