April rolled her eyes at her furry friend cowering in the hole. "Thanks a lot for leaving me alone, Ester."
"I said show yourself," boomed the baritone.
April stood, "There's no need to be so grumpy. I'm right here. I wasn't spying on you, my forest friend told me there was a stranger in the forest and asked me to check it out."
"So these are your woods?" asked the stranger.
April shook her head. "No, the woods belong to everyone. I'm more of an overseer. Who are you?"
"My name is Diamond," the stranger replied.
"You'll have to forgive me, but I've never seen a creature like you." April placed her finger on her chin. "What are you?"
Diamond sighed and looked up. "That's because I am not of this realm. I come from above."
"Above what?" asked April.
"I come from Heaven."
April gasped. "So you're an angel! What are you doing down here?"
"I've fallen," he said, eyes cast down. "I'm not sure how or why. I just woke up here, with this." He pointed to the black feather. "And now I can never go back. I've lost my home."
"That is so sad," said April. "Isn't there anything you can do?"
Diamond shook his head. "I cannot return as long as I have this black feather."
April flashed a wicked smile. "Well I guess we best get rid of that feather."
