February looked up. Sitting on a swing made of vines and wild roses, Cupid smiled. "Jack will never touch you, because everything he touches freezes. So you see it is impossible for you to ever be with Jack. Unless you want to be an ice sculpture."
He swooped down, brushing February's hair causing roses to entwine themselves in her brown locks. "But I could help you, if only you ask nicely."
"Would you?" February squealed. "Oh, Cupid, can you help me talk to Jack? It would mean the world to me. I've had a crush on him for so long."
"Of course, my dear. After all it's what I do." He raised his eyebrows. "But first I must know that your love for Jack is true. For once you walk this path with me there's no turning back."
Crispin chirped at February.
She nodded at the little bird. "You're right, I've never said I love him. I'm not sure I even know what love is. I mean the only love I've ever felt is for my family."
Cupid sat beside February. "How does he make you feel?"
February sat her chin delicately on her palm and sighed deeply. "When I see him I feel as if my heart is going to pound out of my chest, it's beating so fast. The one time I was able to talk to him, I couldn't. My tongue felt all twisted in my mouth and I'm sure my face was as red as your roses."
"And when he's not near?" asked Cupid.
"But that's just it," said February, "he's always near, cause he's always in here." She placed her hand over her heart.
"Then it's settled!" announced Cupid. "You, my dear, are in love!"
Crispin let out a triumphant chirp as February clapped her hands.
"So what do we do?" asked February.
Cupid winked. "We do what all love stories do--we get you ready for this year's Winter Ball."
