Thoughts from Cathy

Labor Day Weekend
By Cathy Collar

Labor Day will soon be here!
Time to get the fishing gear.
Grab the boat and grab the beer.
Sleeping bags and tents go here.

Charcoal and wood for the fires,
Anything our heart desires.
Pillows for when we retire.
Pile that stuff a little higher.

Ice we will need the most.
Marshmallows go to toast.
Hot-dogs a must to roast.
No time to face book post.

Towels and sun block, have to take
Incase we decide to bake.
Or we should decide to shake.
We are going to the lake.

Lanterns to light the way
When ma nature has her say.
We will take the insect spray,
To help keep the pest away.

Fun toys are a must.
Trying hard not to cuss.
For after all the fuss
There is no room for us!

Happy Labor Day Weekend!!!

Anna's Birthday

Happy Birthday to our Beautiful Angel. You are always in our thoughts. We miss and Love YOU! Sending you kisses all the way to heaven.
I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday, and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories and a picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake, from which I'll never part. God has you in his arms. I have you in my heart.

Stone Magic ~ The Spirit Within

 Peridot Lore & History
Throughout history, there have been many legends that state the strong magical power that peridot possesses. Legend says that if the gem is set in gold, it will develop its full potential as a talisman and will have the power to dispel terrors of the night- fears and bad dreams. However, according to Pliny The Elder, the Great Roman authority on such matters, for peridots to work their strongest magic, they must be worn on the right arm.

The grants are in response to request for proposals from researchers in each of these areas.

Native American Animal Symbol

Native American Animal Symbol
Bear:
Aug 22 – Sep 21
Pragmatic, and methodical the Bear is the one to call when a steady hand is needed. The Bear's practicality and level-headedness makes him/her an excellent business partner. Usually the voice of reason in most scenarios, the Bear is a good balance for Owls. The Bear is also gifted with an enormous heart, and a penchant for generosity. However, one might not know it as the Bear tends to be very modest, and a bit shy. In a loving environment this Native American animal symbol showers love and generosity in return. Further, the Bear has a capacity for patience and temperance, which makes him/her excellent teachers and mentors. Left to his/her own devices the bear can be skeptical, sloth, small-minded and reclusive.

Mystique Stone Magic ~ The Spirit Within

 Peridot Lore & History
Peridot is the National gem of Egypt. Ancient Egyptians knew it as “the gem of the sun.” Peridot was mined for over 3,500 years on St Johns Island. As late as the 19th Century, the Kedhive of Egypt had a monopoly on the mines. At one point, the island’s exact whereabouts became a mystery for several centuries until being rediscovered in 1905. Joel Aram, from the “Color Encyclopedia of Gemstones 2nd Edition,” writes “Zabargad is an island in the Red Sea that is often shrouded in fog, making it difficult for ancient navigators to find. The location has been lost in fact, for centuries, and was rediscovered in about 1905. The island is located 35 miles of the Egyptian coastal port of Berenica.” In the 19th Century, the mines on Zabargad Island produced millions of dollars worth of peridot. After 1905, production of the gems peaked, but by the late 1930’s it tapered off to practically nothing and reached a virtual stand still in 1958, when the mines were nationalized. Although parcels of St. Johns peridot still come into the market once in a while, it is not known whether it is new or old. Most assume it is old.

Mystique Stone Magic ~ The Spirit Within

 Peridot Lore & History
Peridot is named after the French word peritot, meaning gold, because the mineral can vary towards this color. Peridot is the birthstone for the month of August. It is also the stone given to celebrate the 16th year of marriage. Peridot has a very long written history. Ancient papyri record the mining of these stones as early as 1500 BC. The main source of peridot in the ancient world was Topazo Island (now Zabargad or St. John’s Island) in the Egyptian Red Sea. In Ancient times, peridot stones were used for carved talismans. Island habitants were forced to collect the gems for the Pharaoh’s treasury. Legend says that jealous watchers who had orders to put to death any trespassers guarded the entire island. The story continues that the miners worked in the daytime as well as night, as the gems could be found after nightfall due to their radiance. The miners would mark the spot at night for retrieval the following day.

Dakota Jones and the Peridot Princess Part 2

Miss part 1? Find it here ~ http://annas-legacy.blogspot.com/2012/07/dakota-jones-and-peridot-princess.html
Dakota could see every muscle in Ruby body tighten up as a large rustle escaped from the bushes.

"Tata Duende," she whispered.

Dakota gave his head a slight shake. "No... worse."

Before Ruby could respond a series of machetes broke through the dense jungle. Two dark skinned men pointed their machetes at Dakota and Ruby to protect the pasty man that followed. Four more men with machetes follow.

"Moses," said Dakota, a sneer on his face.

"Ahhh... Dakota it's so nice to see you again," sang Moses, his voice high and nasally. "Oh, and Ruby, lovely as ever. Fancy meeting the two of you here."

"Yeah, fancy that," said Dakota.

Moses walks around Ruby. "So what brings you two out in the jungle on this fine day? Are we looking for a temple? Maybe some Mayan ruins?" He grabs Ruby's chin as she tries to flinch back. "Perhaps your searching for a certain peridot necklace?"

"I don't know what you're talking about," said Ruby, finally jerking her head away.

Moses laughed. "So you're just out here having a little picnic... maybe a lover's trist?"

"What do you want, Moses?" Dakota asked, taking the madman's focus away from Ruby.

"The same thing you do, Dakota, world peace, end world hunger, and the Peridot Princess." With a snap of his fingers, the men surround Dakota and Ruby. "And you're going to help me find it, aren't you?"
